Davis’s Track Athlete of the Week Nod Highlights Valkyries' Time at GottaRun Invite

CENTRAL, S.C.  – With a time of 20.81 seconds in the 200 meters, junior Devron Davis capped off another exceptional meet for the Converse University track and field team as they took on the GottaRun Invite hosted by Southern Wesleyan University. His time ranks him first in the southeast region and Conference Carolinas. He is ranked seventh in Division II.

Men's Notes:
  • Davis's performance in the 200 highlights the meet for Converse. He set a school record and personal record in the process.
  • Sophomore Dorian Bomar finished second and graduate student Zephaniah Cox Jr. placed third in the 100 meter dash. They recorded times of 10.53 and 10.57. It is Cox's fastest time of the outdoor season. Freshman Dre'Kevan Thomas set a personal record in the event with a time of 10.83.
  • Thomas also performed well in the 100 meter hurdles, taking second place at the meet with a time of 14.72. Senior Donald Medley placed fourth in the event and recorded a personal-best time of 15.44.
  • The Valkyries took second and third in the 400 meter hurdles. Freshman Kyan Sapko and sophomore Jacob Joe finished with times of 54.72 and 56.95 respectively. They are ranked fourth and ninth respectively in the southeast region. They rank first and third in Conference Carolinas. Sapko's time is also a new school record.
    • Sophomore Demarco Thomas hit a personal-record time of 1:03.75 in the event.
  • Junior Zackery Carver and sophomore Hunter Heron placed second and third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Both set personal records and Carver ranks seventh in Conference Carolinas.
  • The Valkyries' 4x100 relay team placed first in the event with a time 40.74 and the 4x400 relay team placed third with a time of 3:19.74. The 4x400 Valkyries rank sixth in the southeast region and third in Conference Carolinas.
  • Junior Kaden Gamble and freshman Camden Ranieri placed third and fifth at the meet in the long jump with marks of 6.81 meters and 6.63 meters respectively.
  • Sophomore Omarion Belton hit a personal-best mark of 13.95 meters in the triple jump. He ranks fifth in Conference Carolinas and ninth in the southeast region.
  • Sophomore Aubrey Hemphill hit a mark of 45.28 meters in the hammer throw, ranking him tenth in Conference Carolinas. It is a personal record for Hemphill.
 
Women's Notes:
  • Senior Eseose Okoduwa ran a new personal and school record time of 24.22 in the 200 meters. She won the event at the meet and ranks fourth in Conference Carolinas and seventh in the southeast region.
  • Freshman Madison Mateen ran a personal-best time of 12.41 in the 100 meter dash, placing fourth at the meet. Junior Madison Griffin placed fifth in the event at the meet.
  • In the 200 meters, sophomore Jermyra Bethel and Griffin placed third and sixth behind Okoduwa with times of 25.29 and 25.75 respectively. These are both personal bests.
  • Bethel won the 400 meters with a time of 57.33 while freshman Triniti Muldrow-Green placed third with a time of 59.59. Bethel ranks eighth in the southeast region and third in Conference Carolinas.
  • Freshman Hailey Jones placed seventh in the 5,000 meters.
  • Sophomore Kamille Cunningham set two personal records at the meet: a time of 15.70 in the 100 meter hurdles and a mark of 5.27 meters in the long jump. She placed fourth in the long jump.
  • Freshman Talaijah Bartley placed sixth in the 100 meter hurdles while junior D'Asia Thomas placed eighth in the event.
  • Thomas also set a personal-best in the long jump with a mark of 4.96 meters. Senior Mackenzie Whitesideide and Cunningham placed ahead of her with marks of 5.28 meters and 5.27 meters respectively, placing them third and fourth in the event. Cunningham's mark is also a personal best.
  • The Valkyries 4x100 relay team won the event with a time of 46.84.
  • Whiteside also took third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.00 meters. Senior Janiya Pinckney placed fourth with a distance of 10.65 meters.
  • Freshman Alla Hutchins placed third in the shotput with a mark of 11.78 meters. She ranks fourth in the southeast region and second in Conference Carolinas.
