MARS HILL, N.C. – The Converse University acrobatics and tumbling fell 248.756 – 245.815 to #3 Mars Hill on Tuesday evening in the quarterfinals round of the Conference Carolinas Championship.
Event 1 – Compulsory
In the Compulsory event, Converse posted scores of 8.55 (Acro Heat), 9.45 (Pyramid Heat), 9.50 (Toss Heat), and 8.10 (Tumbling Heat). The Valkyries won two of the five heats and won the overall event by a final score of 35.60 – 35.15 over Mars Hill.
Event 2 – Acro
In the Acro event, Converse posted scores of 9.65 (5 Element), 6.95 (6 Element), and 9.15 (7 Element). The Valkyries lost the final two heats of the Acro event, as Mars Hill took the overall event by a final score of 27.75 – 25.75.
Event 3 – Pyramid
In the Pyramid event, Converse posted scores of 9.55 (Inversion), 8.95 (Synchronized), and 9.65 (Open). The Valkyries won the Inversion Pyramid heat and outscored Mars Hill 28.15 – 27.15 to take the Pyramid event. Despite winning two of the first three events, the Valkyries still trailed 90.05 – 89.50 at halftime.
Event 4 – Toss
In the Toss event, Converse posted scores of 9.05 (450 Salto), 8.70 (Synchronized), and 9.10 (Open). The Valkyries won the open toss heat by a final score of 9.10 – 8.90, however, Mars Hill won the event by a final score of 27.10 – 26.85.
Event 5 – Tumbling
Converse recorded scores of 8.600 (Duo Pass), 8.350 (Trio Pass), 7.200 (Quad Pass), 9.100 (Aerial Pass), 8.025 (6 Element Pass), 8.850 (Open Pass). The Valkyries lost the tumbling event by a final score of 51.125 – 50.125.
Event 6 – Team
With a start value of 96.89, Mars Hill scored a 80.49 to end the meet with an overall score of 248.765 on the day. Converse started their team event with a 97.64 start value and scored 79.34 points to end the meet with an overall score of 245.815.
