BELMONT N.C. – The Converse University acrobatics and tumbling team picked up tumbling event win before ultimately falling 229.145-218.030 to Belmont Abbey on Saturday evening.
 
Event 1 – Compulsory
In the Compulsory event, Converse posted scores of 7.15 (Acro Heat), 9.50 (Pyramid Heat), 8.90 (Toss Heat), and 7.30 (Tumbling Heat). The Crusaders edged out the Valkyries just barley in the opening event winning 33.55-32.85 over the Valkyries.
 
Event 2 – Acro
In the Acro event, Converse posted scores of 8.75 (5 Element), 7.30 (6 Element), and 7.35 (7 Element). The Valkyries won the six element heat over Belmont Abbey, but ultimately lost the event by a final score of 24.35-23.40.
 
Event 3 – Pyramid
In the Pyramid event, Converse posted scores of 8.95 (Inversion), 8.35 (Synchronized), and 9.00 (Open). The Valkyries won the Inversion Pyramid heat by a final score of 8.95-8.85 over Belmont Abbey. The Crusaders still won the event, however, by a final score of 27.75-26.30 over Converse.
 
Event 4 – Toss
In the Toss event, Converse posted scores of 8.45 (450 Salto), 7.75 (Synchronized), and 8.60 (Open). Once again, the Valkyries won the opening 450 Salto toss heat over the Crusaders. Belmont Abbey won their fourth event of the night by a final score of 25.20-24.80.
 
Event 5 – Tumbling
The Valkyries shined in the tumbling event, outscoring Belmont Abbey 47.550-46.475 in the event. Converse recorded scores of 7.550 (Duo Pass), 7.900 (Trio Pass), 7.550 (Quad Pass), 8.175 (Aerial Pass), 8.075 (6 Element Pass), 8.300 (Open Pass). The Valkyries ended up winning both the Duo Pass heat and the open pass heat against the Crusaders.
 
Event 6 – Team
With a start value of 96.92, Belmont Abbey scored a 71.82 to end the meet with an overall score of 229.145 on the day. Converse started their team event with a 97.18 start value but the Valkyries were only able to score a total of 63.13 points to end the meet with an overall score of 218.03.
 
Next Up:
Converse will have a week off before hosting Mars Hill for their home opener on February 15^th. The meet is currently scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. inside the Weisiger Center.
