Valkyries Score Season-Best In Victory Over King

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University acrobatics & tumbling team (2-2, 2-2 Conference Carolinas) won four events and 13 heats as they secured their second victory of the season with a 237.285-233.880 victory over King (1-2, 1-2 Conference Carolinas) Friday evening at the Weisiger Center. The Valkyries scored season-highs in five heats and two events.
 
Event 1 – Compulsory
In the Compulsory event, Converse posted scores of 3.950 (Acro Heat), 9.450 (Pyramid Heat), 8.650 (Toss Heat), and 7.850 (Tumbling Heat). The Valkyries trailed 33.550-29.900 heading into the acro portion of competition.
 
Event 2 – Acro
In the Acro event, Converse posted scores of 9.050 (5 Element), 8.250 (6 Element), and 9.000 (7 Element). The Valkyries recorded season highs in the 5 element and 6 element. It is also the team's highest combined score in the acro portion of the meet this season. Converse closed the gap on King, trailing 57.200-56.200 heading into the pyramid event.
 
Event 3 – Pyramid
In the Pyramid event, Converse posted scores of 9.450 (Inversion), 9.350 (Synchronized), and 9.300 (Open), a season-high in the synchronized heat. The Valkyries won all three heats and pulled ahead 84.300-82.450 heading into halftime.
 
Event 4 – Toss

In the Toss event, Converse posted scores of 8.700 (450 Salto), 7.850 (Synchronized), and 9.200 (Open). The Valkyries scored a season-best in the open toss, beating their previous best of 8.900 scored against Mars Hill. Converse expanded their lead to 110.050-107.100 heading into the tumbling event.
 
Event 5 – Tumbling
The duo of senior Nia Jackson and sophomore Madison Seymour scored a 7.600 in the duo pass. Seniors Emilee-Claire Carter, Ashlynn Voorhees and Aiko Hirata combined for a 6.350 in the trio pass. A quartet of Valkyries led by seniors Krissa Gaines, Chloe Cleland, Lydia Redmon and sophomore Kaylah Belle Danjczek scored a 6.650 in the quad pass. Seymour competed in the aerial pass and posted an 8.600. Hirata took on the 6 element pass and scored an 8.200. Gaines rounded out the tumbling event with a season-high for the Valkyries in the open pass, scoring an 8.975. The Valkyries led 156.425-153.000 heading into the final event, the team event.
 
Event 6 – Team
With a start value of 95.030, King scored 80.880 to end the meet with an overall score of 233.880 on the day. Converse started their team event with a 97.020 start value. The Valkyries scored an 80.860, a season-high in the team event. With four event wins, Converse secured a 237.285-233.880 victory over King.
 
Next Up:
Converse will next host Francis Marion and Coker in a tri-meet on Saturday, March 15. The meet is set to begin at 1 P.M.
