Valkyries Top Lions in Pyramid and Tumbling Events

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University acrobatics & tumbling team (0-2, 0-2 Conference Carolinas) scored season-highs in all six events in their Saturday matchup against the Mars Hill Lions (2-0, 2-0 Conference Carolinas) but ultimately fell to the Lions by a final score of 234-.06-233.11.
 
Event 1 – Compulsory
In the Compulsory event, Converse posted scores of 6.95 (Acro Heat), 9.10 (Pyramid Heat), 9.55 (Toss Heat), and 7.90 (Tumbling Heat), winning the latter three events over the Lions. The Valkyries scored season-bests in the toss and tumbling heat. It is also their highest event total in compulsory so far this season. Mars Hill narrowly led Converse 33.55-33.50 heading into the second event.
 
Event 2 – Acro
In the Acro event, Converse posted scores of 8.60 (5 Element), 8.15 (6 Element), and 8.10 (7 Element), season bests in the final two heats of the acro event. It is also a season-high for the combined scores of all three heats of the acro event. The Valkyries won the seven-element heat over Mars Hill, but ultimately lost the event by a final score of 25.70-24.85. Converse trailed 59.25-58.35 heading into the third event.
 
Event 3 – Pyramid
In the Pyramid event, Converse posted scores of 9.20 (Inversion), 9.20 (Synchronized), and 9.650 (Open), season-highs in all three heats. The Valkyries won all three heats easily to claim the pyramid event by a score of 28.05-25.85. With the exceptional showing in the pyramid, Converse made up their deficit from the first two events and led 86.40-85.10 heading into halftime.
 
Event 4 – Toss
In the Toss event, Converse posted scores of 8.60 (450 Salto), 8.10 (Synchronized), and 8.90 (Open), season-highs in all three heats. The Valkyries won the opening heat over the Lions but Mars Hill won their third event of the afternoon by a final score of 26.00-25.60. Converse's lead gained from the pyramid event was enough to narrowly keep them ahead overall with a score of 112.00-111.10.
 
Event 5 – Tumbling
The Valkyries shined in the tumbling event, outscoring Mars Hill 47.70-46.55 in the event. Converse recorded scores of 7.65 (Duo Pass), 7.85 (Trio Pass), 7.05 (Quad Pass). Sophomore Madison Seymour posted a score of 8.70 in the aerial pass while senior Aiko Hirata posted a 8.175 in the six-element pass. Senior Ashlynn Voorhees scored an 8.275 in the open pass. Converse recorded season-highs in the duo pass, aerial pass and six-element pass. The Valkyries won all but the six-element pass in the tumbling event, taking a 159.70-157.65 lead into team event.
 
Event 6 – Team
With a start value of 96.36, Mars Hill scored 76.41 to end the meet with an overall score of 234.06 on the day. Converse started their team event with a 95.37 start value. The Valkyries scored a 73.41, a season-high in the event. Mars Hill passed Converse and won the meet 234.06-233.11.
 
Next Up:
Converse will have a short week before heading to Franklin Springs, Georgia to take on the Emmanuel Lions on Thursday, Feb. 20. The meet is scheduled to start at 6 P.M.
