GREENVILLE, S.C. – After a week that saw the Valkyries hand previously-undefeated No. 8 Young Harris their first loss of the season, the Converse University men's soccer team swept the Conference Carolinas weekly awards. Freshman forward
Jacob Bandel was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week while redshirt senior
Harry O'Brien was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Bandel scored two goals in Saturday's win over nationally-ranked Young Harris. The freshman from Sherrills Ford, North Carolina recorded his second career multi-goal game against the Mountain Lions. Bandel attempted five shots in the game with four of those on-goal. He appeared in 84 minutes of the match. Bandel also assisted on one goal in last Tuesday's 4-4 draw against Belmont Abbey.
O'Brien played all 180 minutes across both games last week. He recorded three saves against five shots on goal in the Valkyries' victory over Young Harris. O'Brien became the first opposing goalkeeper this season to earn a win against Young Harris. He also recorded two saves against Belmont Abbey on Tuesday.
The Valkyries are back in action tonight, Oct. 28, as they head to Tigerville to face the North Greenville Trailblazers at 7:30 P.M.
