SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's soccer team (5-5-2, 4-3-2 Conference Carolinas) saw five Valkyries score as they topped the Shorter University Hawks (1-11-0, 1-8-0 Conference Carolinas) by a final score of 10-1.

It is the first time in the program's five-year history that the Valkyries have netted double-digit goals.

The Valkyries attempted 30 shots in the match while allowing Shorter just five shots. Converse attempted 14 shots on goal while the Hawks managed just a trio of such shots.

The scoring started in the 10th minute as freshman Levi Bankirer scored the first goal of the game off of an assist from senior Guilherme Fontes. Fellow freshman Jacob Bandel netted a goal less than two minutes later, also with an assist from Fontes.

Just over seven minutes later Bandel netted his second goal of the game, with the assist coming from junior Jesper Schierholz.

In the 33rd minute junior Nico Galanis netted his first goal of the game as Schierholz picked up his second assist of the game. Just 28 seconds later, Bandel scored again, giving junior Kade Smith his first assist of the game.

Smith and Galanis each added another goal before the end of the first half, putting the Valkyries up 7-0 going into halftime.

Galanis completed his hat trick in the 54th minute. Twenty seconds later, Shorter scored their only goal of the match on a penalty kick.

Graduate student Hendrik Brauch netted his first goal of the season as junior Elliott Yarborough picked up his first career assist.
