Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Valkyries and Crusaders Each Net Quartet, Settle For Divisional Draw

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's soccer team (5-5-3, 4-3-3 Conference Carolinas) found themselves in a similar situation on Tuesday night to their last game against the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (5-3-5, 3-2-5 Conference Carolinas), getting down early in the match but finding a way to come back and force a draw with the Crusaders, as each team scored four goals in divisional draw.

Belmont Abbey scored the first goal just 38 seconds into the match, putting Converse in an early deficit. The Valkyries even the game just under 12 minutes later as freshman Levi Bankirer scored his fifth goal of the season with an assist from senior Guilherme Fontes.

Just 12 minutes after that, Belmont Abbey reclaimed the lead. Fontes retied the game in the 33rd minute with an assist from team scoring leader freshman Jacob Bandel. Neither team scored again for the rest of the first half.

Freshman Andy Alvarenga scored his first career goal in the 53rd minute, with Fontes picking up his second assist of the game.

Goals from Belmont Abbey in the 75th and 78th minutes put the Crusaders up for the first time since the 33rd minute.

With things going towards a Belmont Abbey victory, Bankirer scored the equalizer with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. It is the second time this season the Valkyries have equalized a game against the Crusaders with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game.
