YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Behind a quartet of goals and a trio of saves, the Converse University men's soccer team (6-5-3, 5-3-3 Conference Carolinas) stunned the No. 8 Young Harris Mountain Lions (10-1-3, 9-1-1 Conference Carolinas), winning the team's Saturday matchup 4-2 and delivering the Mountain Lions their first loss of the season.

Freshman forward Jacob Bandel recorded his second career multi-goal game in the victory. He leads the Valkyries in goals scored with nine this season.

The Valkyries got things rolling early as senior forward Guilherme Fontes scored the first goal of the game in just the third minute. Young Harris re-evened the game just under 10 minutes later with a goal of their own.

Ten minutes after that, Bandel struck with the first of his two goals, with junior midfielder Jesper Schierholz assisting.

It would take just about two and a half minutes for the Valkyries to net the eventual game-winning goal. Bandel assisted on the goal.

Young Harris struck with nine and a half minutes remaining in the half, cutting the lead to one goal, 3-2.

The final goal of the game came just six and a half minutes into the second half, as Bandel netted his second goal of the day in the 52nd minute.

Converse fended off the next 40 minutes of attacks from Young Harris and held on to hand the Mountain Lions their first loss of the season 4-2.

The Valkyries wrap up their 2025 road slate on Tuesday, Oct. 28 as they head to Tigerville, South Carolina to take on the North Greenville Trailblazers. The game is set to begin at 7:30 P.M.
