Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Nero Nets First Career Goal in Saturday Matchup With Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Despite an 82nd-minute goal to cut the lead in half, the Converse men's soccer team (4-5-2, 3-3-2 Conference Carolinas) dropped their Saturday divisional contest with Lees-McRae (2-3-6, 2-2-3 Conference Carolinas) by a final score of 2-1.

The Bobcats more than doubled the Valkyries' shots in the first half, attempting eight while allowing Converse just three. Early into the seventh minute, one of those shots from the Bobcats sailed into the net, putting the Bobcats up early.

The script flipped in the second half, with the Valkyries more than doubling up the Bobcats on shots 7-3. Both teams attempted six shots on goal in the game.

Unfortunately, one of the Bobcats three second-half shots was a 47th minute goal to put them up 2-0.

The bright spot in the match for Converse came from freshman defender Owen Nero, who was playing up on a corner kick, netted his first collegiate goal to cut the lead in half in the 82nd minute.

The Valkyries attempted four more shots in the final eight minutes, two of which were on goal, but were unable to find the game-tying strike.
