Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Goals Spells Defeat for Valkyries

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – An even match from the Converse University men's soccer team (4-4, 3-2 Conference Carolinas) came down to the final minutes of the match as an 85th-minute goal from the North Greenville Trailblazers (6-2, 3-2 Conference Carolinas) proved to be the difference in the 1-0 Trailblazer win.

The Valkyries outshot the Trailblazers in the game 16-14, holding an even slimmer margin in shots on goal, 6-5.

Converse had possibly its best chance of scoring in the 16th minute as senior defender Martin Burgos hit the ball off of a corner past the Trailblazers' keeper, but a defender was able to stop the ball before it went into the goal.

The Valkyires again found themselves with opportunities to score in the second half, but it was North Greenville that capitalized on their lone late-game opportunity.

Next Up:
After a brief homestand, the Valkyries are back on the road on Saturday, Oct. 4 as they head to Belmont, North Carolina to take on another divisional foe, the Belmont Abbey Crusaders. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 P.M.
