Box Score DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Converse University men's soccer team (1-1) downed the North Georgia Nighthawks (1-1) by a final score of 4-1 Saturday afternoon at the UNG Soccer Field. It is the first loss at home for the Nighthawks in 689 days, a streak going back to Oct. 19, 2022 when the team fell to Lander on their senior night.

The defensive battle saw just 15 shots combined over the game's 90 minutes. UNG took eight of those while Converse had the other seven. Converse put six-of-seven shots on goal while the Nighthawks managed a five-for-eight performance in the same category.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mateo Sanchez recorded four saves as he earned a 90-minute victory in the box.

In the 20th minute, senior Jaxon Keene netted the game's first goal with an assist coming from fellow senior Hayden Gensler. Approximately 15 minutes later, the Nighthawks nailed the equalizer, retying the game, this time at 1-1.

Exactly 30 seconds later, redshirt junior Jac Humphreys sank his first game-winner in the purple and gold with a shot into the lower left-hand side of the goal. Converse took their 2-1 lead into the break.

Just 32 seconds into the second half, Gensler sank a goal of his own with the assist coming from fellow senior Ricky Cardozo. Yet another senior scored as Johannes Haden drilled the back of the net in the 65th minute. Junior Luis Fortuce earned his first assist as a Valkyrie on Haden's goal.

The Nighthawks tried in vain to make up the three-goal deficit over the final 25 minutes of the game, but not only came up short, but empty-handed as well as Converse won the game 4-1.
Converse returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 11 as they wrap up the three-game road trip with a visit to fellow regional opponent Anderson University at 7:30 P.M.
