Women’s Soccer Looks To Extend Streak Against Lander

Converse Notes:
  • The Valkyries enter the matchup after downing Chowan 3-0 in the teams' first Conference Carolina contest of the season.
  • Junior Jasmine Hernandez leads the team in scoring with eight points, all coming from her four goals. Sophomore Hannah Liebig is second on the team with six points, all from her three goals.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Gabriella Gudeman notched the first shutout of her collegiate career in the win against Chowan.
  • The Valkyries seek to extend their first-ever win streak against the Bearcats.
Lander Notes:
  • The Bearcats are coming off of a 2-0 victory against Lee University on Saturday, Sept. 14. They previously drew 0-0 with the SAC's Wingate and topped two Conference Carolinas northwest division opponents, defeating North Greenville 5-0 and Belmont Abbey 1-0, both at home.
  • Sophomore Angele Hills leads the team in scoring with five points. She has netted two goals and an assist.
  • Senior Mia Piazza was named the Peach Belt Defender of the Week after helping guide the Bearcats to their fourth straight shutout, the only team in the PBC that has not allowed a goal this season. For similar reasons, junior goalkeeper Leah Hayes Coen was named the Peach Belt's Goalkeeper of the Week.
  • Lander was picked fourth in the Peach Belt's Preseason Poll. They trailed defending champs Columbus State, North Georgia and Flagler. Lander received one first-place vote.
