Valkyries and Trailblazers Trade Second-Half Goals in 1-1 Draw

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – With goals that occurred less than 60 seconds apart, a penalty kick helped the Converse University women's soccer team (4-5-6, 4-4-4 Conference Carolinas) overcome a late deficit to draw with the North Greenville Trailblazers (3-8-4, 3-5-4 Conference Carolinas) 1-1 Tuesday evening at Pepsi Stadium on the campus of North Greenville University.

Freshman goalkeeper Sofía Casares Herrasti played all 90 minutes in goal for the Valkyries and recorded 11 saves, tying her career high that she set last Wednesday against Carson-Newman.

The Trailblazers held a 6-2 advantage in shots in the first half, with NGU attempting five on-goal and Converse attempting one such shot, but neither was able to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes.

It wasn't until the 85th minute that the game finally saw its first goal as North Greenville took the late advantage.

Just 54 seconds later, a handball committed in the box by North Greenville allowed Converse a penalty kick opportunity. Junior defender Brianna Berry, who transferred to Converse from North Greenville, buried the attempt in the back of the net and drew the game even once again.

Neither team found the elusive second goal as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Next up for the Valkyries:
The Valkyries return to action on Saturday, Oct. 24, as they host the Belmont Abbey Crusaders for Senior Day. The match is set for 2 P.M., with Senior Day festivities preceding the action.
