Women’s Soccer Looks Ahead to Road Test Against Mars Hill

Converse Notes:

After getting down to the Felician Golden Falcons about halfway through the first half, sophomore midfielder Skylar Lund opened the Valkyries' 2023 scoring with an assist from freshman forward Hayley Forbes during the 56th minute of the contest.
In total, 20 Valkyries found their way onto the pitch in the team's first outing of 2023.
The Valkyries held the Golden Falcons to just five shots, only one on goal.
Converse took seven shots in the season opener, three of which were on target.
Four Valkyries competed in all 90 minutes of the first contest: junior defender Madison Free, sophomore defender Savannah Mellon, freshman goalkeeper Allie Nepomuceno and sophomore defender Giulia Rodriegues-Franceschini.

Mars Hill Notes:

The Lions were selected 11 out of 12th in the South Atlantic Conference preseason coaches poll with 26 points. That total doubles last-place Emory & Henry who received 13 points.
Despite the low ranking in the preseason poll, Mars Hill defeated Conference Carolinas' Lees-McRae who were selected to finish fourth in the Conference Carolinas' preseason poll. The Bobcats were the highest-ranked team of the 11 to not receive a first-place vote.
The Lions' lone goal of the game came from senior midfielder Marianne Ross in the 73rd minute. She was the team's second leading scorer in 2022 with four goals for eight points.
Mars Hill's goalkeeper faced three shots on goal and recorded an equal number of saves to collect her first victory of the season.
