The Valkyries picked up their first win of the season in a 1-0 home victory against Erskine on Aug. 31.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tim Baerwalde picked up his first victory in the box for the Valkyries. He recorded a 1.00 save percentage on one shot on goal.
Senior forward Joan Bauza Sureda scored Converse's lone goal of the match on an assist from junior midfielder Nathan Hoover in the ninth minute of the season opener.
Converse outshot the Flying Fleet 19-2 (8-1 on goal) in the team's first outing.

Mars Hill Notes:

The Lions open the season on a two-game win streak. Both victories came over Conference Carolinas opponents: Mount Olive and North Greenville.
Mars Hill jumped to a 2-0 halftime lead on Mount Olive before giving up a 48th-minute goal to bring the game to the final score of 2-1. Junior forward Peter Plougmand scored both of the Lions' goals.
Plougmand opened the scoring against NGU and the teams went back-and-forth before the Lions scored a last-second goal to claim a 3-2 victory.
Junior goalkeeper James Price has played all 180 minutes for the Lions so far and has recorded nine saves on 12 shots on goal, a save percentage of .750.
