Men’s Soccer Prepares for 2022 Championship Rematch with Francis Marion

Converse Notes:

The Valkyries enter the matchup after a week off from games. Converse last played last Saturday, Sept. 23 and captured a 5-1 road victory over North Greenville.
Converse has appeared in all four weeks of the United Soccer Coaches southeast region poll. The purple and gold have peaked as high as No. 5 and currently sit at No. 8 in the latest poll.
The Valkyries are scoring by committee in the 2023 season. Six different players have scored two goals this season, all tied for the team lead. Sophomore forward Guilherme Fontes leads the Valkyries in scoring with two goals and three assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tim Baerwalde is tied for the Conference Carolinas lead in goals allowed but has sole possession of the goals allowed average. He has allowed six goals in seven games played with a goals allowed average of 0.857.

North Greenville Notes:

The Patriots are coming off of a 2-1 nonconference victory over Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday, Sept. 27. Francis Marion is on a four-game winning streak and has not lost since Sept. 10 against Palm Beach Atlantic University, currently ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches south region poll.
Francis Marion and the Valkyries last met on the pitch in the 2022 Conference Carolinas Championship Game. Converse took a 1-0 victory over the Patriots with a 79th minute goal.
The Patriots are currently tied with Chowan for the lead in the east division. Francis Marion was selected second in the preseason poll and gained four first-place votes.
Junior goalkeeper Felipe Ramos Peralta is tied with Baerwalde for the conference lead in goals allowed with six. He is second in goals allowed average with 0.923.
Junior forward Edorta Cabieces leads the team in scoring with 12 points. He has scored five goals (the team leader) and two assists.
