Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Despite a late push from the Valkyries offense, the Converse University women's soccer team (0-0-1) drew in their season opener against the Golden Falcons of Felician University (0-0-1). Sophomore midfielder Skylar Lund scored the Valkyries' lone goal of the match in the 58th minute.

The Valkyries made a push with a potential one-on-one shot against the Gold Falcons' goalkeeper with 2:30 remaining in the first half, but the pass went long and out the endline before Shelby McCutchen could corral it and make a shot attempt.

Felician held a 3-0 shot lead after the first half, one of which found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead after the first half of action.

The Valkyries went to work immediately in the second half, dominating possession and taking the first six shots of the second half.

In the 58th minute, Lund found the back of the net and drew the game even at 1-1.

Despite two more shots from the Valkyries and a late push inside of five minutes that saw the team control the ball for much of that time, the Valkyries were unable to score again and settled for a 1-1 draw with the Golden Falcons.

Converse returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 6 as they travel to Mars Hill for a 5-p.m. matchup.
