The Valkyries return to the pitch after capturing the 2022 Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament championships. The team posted a 13-1-5 record overall and an 8-0-3 conference record.
Converse returns five all-conference selections from 2022 including first-team selection and Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year Hayden Gensler.
The Valkyries were tabbed to repeat as Conference Carolinas champions in the preseason coaches polls. Converse sits atop the poll with 136 points and seven first-place votes.
The team is led in their third season by 2022 Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year Rob Miller who boasts a 21-10-7 record at Converse and a 214-145-27 all-time record in 19 seasons as a collegiate head coach.

Erskine Notes:

The Flying Fleet posted a 1-14-1 record during the 2022 season and went 1-9-1 in Conference Carolinas play. The team's sole win came against Barton on Sept. 24, 2022 in a 3-2 victory.
The Flying Fleet return 0% of their goals scored from the 2022 campaign, as the six members of the Fleet who found the back of the net have departed since the end of the 2022 season.
Erskine was selected to finish 13th in the Conference Carolinas preseason coaches poll.
The team is led in its second season by head coach John Chisolm.

General Matchup Notes:

Despite both teams competing in Conference Carolinas, Thursday's game is a nonconference matchup and will not count towards either team's conference record.
Last time out, the Valkyries captured a 4-1 victory.
All four of Converse's goal scorers from the 2022 matchup return for the 2023 season opener: Hayden Gensler, Johannes Haden, Joel Houston and Kyle Lewis all notched a goal in last season's victory over the Flying Fleet.
