SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Converse University head cross country coach
Mark Rennix has released the Valkyries upcoming season schedule.
The cross country teams will be looking to build off their success from a season ago as the women's team finished runner-up at the Conference Carolinas Championships. On the women's side the Valkyries return cross country Freshman of the Year
Lauren Beatty (Winchester, Va.) and indoor & outdoor track Freshman of the Year
Ruth Spijker (Sint Pancras, The Netherlands). On the men's side the Valkyries will be looking to build off an eighth place finish as all-conference standout
Luis Rios Brena (Gray Court, S.C.) returns for his third season in the purple and gold.
Converse will once again start the season at the Eye Opener Invitational hosted by USC Upstate on September 1
st at 6:00 p.m. The Valkyries will be racing at their shared home course with the Spartans at Milliken Research Park. On September 16
th at 9:00 a.m., the Valkyries will host the Converse Kick Off event for their second meet of the season.
At the end of September, the Valkyries will make the long trek up to Bethlehem, Pa., to race in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. On Friday, October 6
th the Valkyries will travel up to Charlotte to race in the Royals Challenge hosted by Queens University.
This season the Conference Carolinas Championships will take place in Belmont, N.C., on Saturday October 21
st. The first race of the morning is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. The Valkyries will conclude the season in Dahlonega, Ga., on November 4
th for the NCAA Division II Southeast Regionals.
