SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University acrobatics and tumbling team defeated King University 255.985-255.135 and fell 258.810-255.985 to Coker inside the Weisiger Center on Sunday afternoon. The Valkyries move to 3-3 overall and 3-3 in Conference Carolinas action, Coker moves to 3-2 overall and 3-2 in Conference Carolinas standings and King is now 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the Conference Carolinas.
Event 1 – Compulsory
Converse defeated both Coker and King in the compulsory tumbling heat, earning a 7.55/10 compared to King's 7.5/10 and Coker's 7.35/10. The Cobras had a 36.20 lead going into the second event, the Tornado was in second with 35.90 and the Valkyries trailed 35.70.
Event 2 – Acro
Converse had highlight scores in the 5-element and 6-element heats, posting scores of 9.30/10 and 9.05/9.85, respectively. Coker still led after event two, King was in second and Converse was in third.
Event 3 – Pyramid
Coker scored a perfect 10/10 in the open pyramid heat, maintaining their lead, 94.50, going into halftime. Converse boasted a 9.75/10 in the open pyramid heat, moving into second place with a total of 91.10 points. King trailed with 91.00 points.
Event 4 – Toss
The Valkyries topped all in the 450 Salto toss with a 9.2/9.90. Converse picked up the win in the toss event with an overall score of 26.85 compared to Coker's 26.35 and King's 25.60.
Event 5 – Tumbling
Krissa Gaines scored a 9.4/9.9 in her aerial tumbling pass and
Ceanna Brown finished the open pass with a 9.475/10. Again, the Valkyries picked up the event win with a 50.875. The Tornado came in second with a 50.625 and the Cobras scored a 49.250.
Event 6 – Team
Coker scored an 88.71/100.51 in their team event, defeating both Converse and King with a final score of 258.810. Converse scored an 87.16/100.46 in their team event, defeating King and falling to Coker with a final of 255.985. King scored an 87.91/101.20 in their team event, falling to the Cobras and the Valkyries with an overall score of 255.135.
