SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University acrobatics and tumbling team picked up event wins in the compulsory and tumbling events before ultimately falling 256.600-253.225 to Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon.
Event 1 – Compulsory
Converse came out strong, posting scores of 9.650, 9.550 and 8.600 in the compulsory pyramid, toss and tumbling heats which won them the event outright. The Valkyries would go into the next event up 36.800-36.250 on the Crusaders.
Event 2 – Acro
Belmont Abbey rebounded in the second event, scoring higher than Converse in all three heats to put up a 27.700 compared to the Valkyries 26.800. The Crusaders captured the 63.950-63.600 lead going into the third event.
Event 3 – Pyramid
Heat one of the pyramid event was neck-and-neck as both teams put up scores of 9.600. In heats two and three, the Valkyries had scores of 9.050 and 9.500 but they were not enough to compare to the Crusaders 9.200 and 9.850.
Event 4 – Toss
Trailing 92.600-91.750, Converse made up for lost ground in heat one and two of the event. The Valkyries put up scores of 9.300 and 8.800 in the heats compared to the Crusaders 9.150 and 8.750. A 6.950 in heat three proved costly for Converse as Belmont Abbey scored an 8.850 in the heat, still holding onto the overall lead.
Event 5 – Tumbling
The Valkyries shined in the tumbling event, outscoring Belmont Abbey 52.975-52.300 in the event.
Krissa Gaines' aerial pass and
Ceanna Brown's 6-element pass had scores of 9.750 and 9.650, respectively, to help Converse to a 52.975-52.300 event win.
Event 6 – Team
With a start value of 101.20, Belmont Abbey scored an 84.950 to end the meet with an overall score of 256.600 on the day. Converse started their team event with a 100.35 start value but the Valkyries were only able to score a total of 83.450 points to end the meet with an overall score of 253.225.

No. 8 Converse will travel to No. 6 Limestone on Friday, February 24 for a 7:00 p.m. meet.
