Men’s Soccer Prepares for Tuesday-night Matchup with Young Harris

Converse Notes:
  • The Valkyries enter the game after their three-game win streak was snapped by Francis Marion on Saturday, Sept. 30 1-1. Converse has not lost since Sept. 13 against nationally-ranked Coker.
  • Converse currently sits in third in the first Conference Carolinas KPI rankings of the year. KPI is the metric by which the conference will determine seeding for the conference postseason tournament. The Valkyries own a victory over the top-ranked team, Belmont Abbey, and a draw over the second-ranked team, Francis Marion.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Tim Baerwalde continues to lead the conference in goals allowed average with 0.875 goals per game.
  • Junior defender Gabriel Verona and sophomore forward Guilherme Fontes lead the team in scoring with seven points each. Verona has scored three goals and one assist while Fontes has two goals and three assists.
  • The Valkyries score an average of 2.12 goals per game and are keeping opponents under one goal per game, 0.88.

Young Harris Notes:
  • The Mountain Lions enter the contest after having their five-game win streak snapped on Saturday, Sept. 30 by Lees-McRae with a 1-1 draw. Young Harris has not lost since Sept. 6 against Carson-Newman.
  • Young Harris currently leads the southwest division with an undefeated 4-0 divisional record. They are fourth in the conference's KPI rankings. The Mountain Lions were tabbed third in the Conference Carolinas preseason poll and picked up two first-place votes.
  • Junior forward Jamie Lapsley leads the team in scoring with six goals. That is also tied for the lead in Conference Carolinas.
  • The Mountain Lions score an average of 2.56 goals per game while only allowing 1.89 goals per game. They also outshoot opponents by almost five shots per game.
