SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Converse University Deputy Athletic Director Randy Loggins announced the hiring of Katie Harry today as the new Head Esports Coach.
 
"I want to thank Sheldon Williams for taking our first-year Esports program in the direction that it needed to go in." Loggins said, "With the success that our programs had this past year, we feel that Katie can continue that success. Katie is passionate about bringing students into her program and developing them for life after college through Esports. We are thrilled to have Katie as part of our Valkyrie Family."
 
"I am beyond excited to start at Converse and to lead this program to success," Harry said. "Converse has emerged as a program that can prove to be both successful and competitive and I am honored to be chosen to continue to build onto this program, school, and community. I am especially excited to work with the students and administration at Converse to continue to progress this rising program into a powerhouse to succeed in both competition and academics."
 
Harry makes her way to the Sparkle City after making previous head coaching stops at both Chowan University and Purdue University Fort Wayne. While at Chowan, Harry coached the Hawks' Esports program in Valorant, Apex Legends, League of Legends and Rocket League. In the Fall of 2021, Harry coached the Hawks to an MCEA Championship in Valorant.
 
While at Purdue Fort Wayne, Harry was first the President of Student Esports before transitioning into the first Esports head coach at Fort Wayne. Harry coached the Valorant team at Purdue Fort Wayne to a top-8 finish in the NACE in 2020. Currently, Harry is competing in an all-women's league: VCT Game Changers.

In just its first official season, the Converse University Esports program made a splash on the national scene. The Rainbow Six Siege Team won the first-ever Grand Championship, while the League of Legends and Overwatch teams each won Peach Belt titles in their respective games. The League of Legends team is one of the Final Eight in the College League of Legends Championships and they will compete later this month out in Los Angeles.
