No. 7 Converse Takes Down No. 12 Presbyterian at Home

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse Valkyries acrobatics and tumbling team defeated Presbyterian 261.310-249.975 on Saturday afternoon in the Weisiger Center.

Event 1 – Compulsory
To start the meet off, the Valkyries outscored the Blue Hose in every heat to have an early lead of 37.05-36.20. Converse scored a 9.70/10 in the compulsory pyramid heat, their highest event score while Presbyterian's highest heat score was a 9.65/10 in the compulsory pyramid heat.

Event 2 – Acro
Continuing to outperform Presbyterian, Converse would follow the Blue Hose score of 8.55 in the 5-element heat to post a 9.80 in the heat. The Valkyries also scored a 9.50 in the 6-element and 7-element heats to move to a lead of 65.85-63.40 over the Blue Hose.

Event 3 – Pyramid
Converse posted scores of 9.85. 9.30 and 9.75 in the pyramid heats compared to Presbyterian's, 9.60. 9.55 and 9.70. The Valkyries would have a 94.75-92.25 lead going into halftime.

Event 4 – Toss
Presbyterian would post a score of 8.70 in the open toss heat which was higher than Converse's score of 8.65. However, the Blue Hose other heat scores of 8.45 and 7.95 would not be enough to take the lead as Converse scored an 8.80 and 8.10.

Event 5 – Tumbling
The tumbling event was Presbyterian's strong suit as they had higher scores than Converse in the duo pass, quad pass and aerial pass. The three higher scores, however, would not be enough to capture the event or overall lead as Converse had a score of 171.05 compared to Presbyterian's 165.975 going into the final event.

Event 6 – Team
While the Blue Hose start value of 100.86 would be higher than Converse's 100.11, Presbyterian would only be able to score an 84.00 in the team event to pick up their first loss of the season and move to 1-1 on the year, Converse's score of 90.26 would propel the Valkyries to victory and a 5-0 record on the season.

The Valkyries will be back in action on Saturday, March 19 at 3:00 p.m. for a home tri-meet against Limestone and Chowan.
