No. 7 Converse Dominates in Season Opener Win Over Emmanuel

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse Valkyries acrobatics and tumbling team scored a 260.325 in their home win over Emmanuel who scored a 213.040.
 
The Valkyries will move to 1-0, 1-0 Conference Carolinas while the Lions fall to 0-1, 0-1 Conference Carolinas.
 
Event 1 – Compulsory
Starting the 2022 season off on the right foot, Converse scored a 9.650 in the acro heat, 9.900 in the pyramid heat, 9.650 in the toss heat and 7.700 in the tumbling heat. This resulted in the Valkyries having an early 36.900-30.350 lead over the Lions.
Event 2 – Acro
With a start value of 9.85, the freshman heavy group made of Emilee-Claire Carter, Krissa Gaines, Noa Ortiz and senior Paige Smith posted a 9.700 in the 5-element heat. The next two heats, the 6-element and 7-element, dominated by seniors, posted scores of 9.650 and 9.700. At the end of the acro heat, Converse added 29.050 points to their running total. Emmanuel posted 21.000 points in the event, having a score of 51.350 going into the last event before halftime. Converse had a comfortable lead of 65.950 going into the third event.
Event 3 – Pyramid
Pyramid heat 1 would lend the most points to Converse's overall score, cumulating 9.850 points. The Valkyries would go on to score a 9.100 and 9.750 in the following heats. Their total score from this event would come out to be 28.700, just surpassing Emmanuel's score of 25.350.
Event 4 – Toss
After halftime, the Valkyries would put up scores of 8.800, 8.850 and 8.750, rounding out their total to 26.400. The Lions would outscore the Valkyries in heat 1, putting up an 8.900. They scored a 7.850 and 8.200 in the other heats.
Event 5 – Tumbling
Converse would outscore Emmanuel in every heat of the tumbling event. The Valkyries total from this event would be 51.325 compared to the Lions 45.350.
Event 6 – Team
Starting the final event with a 172.375, Converse already had this meet locked up. The Valkyries' team event start value started at a 100.40 They would post an 87.950. Emmanuel would start their final with a 147.000. Their team event start value was a 96.83. The Lions were only able to execute 66.040 of those points, resulting in their first loss of the season and Converse's first win of the 2022 year.
 
Next Up:
The Valkyries will travel to Hartsville, S.C. on February 13 to compete against Coker University at 4:00 p.m.
