Valkyries Track & Field Team Excels at JDL College Kick-Off

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – This past weekend the Converse University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the JDL College Kick-Off.
 
Women's Notables:
  • In the 3000 meter race the Valkyries had four athletes place inside the top-10. Lauren Beatty finished second overall, Kamille Dixon placed third overall, Ashley Sosa finished sixth and Piper Grant placed seventh overall.
  • For Beatty, her time of 10:50.50 currently leads the Conference and is the seventh best time in the country. The mark, also, gives Beatty the second fastest time in school history. For Dixon, her time of 10:54.49 is currently the tenth fastest time in the country.
  • In the Women's Mile event, the Valkyries once again had a trio of runners finish inside the Top-10. Ruth Spijker finished third overall, Beatty finished sixth overall and Dixon placed eighth overall in the event.
  • Spijker's time of 5:24.05, currently leads the Conference, is the eighth best time in the country and is second all-time in program history.
  • In the women's 800-meter event, Bayley Robinson finished third overall and her time of 2:29.11 leads the Conference.
  • In the women's 400-meter event, Shaniya Grey broke the indoor school record with a time of 59.76 seconds.
  • In the women's 200-meter event, Eseose Okoduwa placed fifth overall with a time of 26.34 seconds.
 
Men's Notables:
  • In the men's 60-meter dash, Gavin McFadden broke his own school record with a time of 6.91 seconds and finished sixth overall in the event.
  • Devron Davis finished eighth overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.04 seconds. Davis' run is the third fastest in school history.
  • Luis Rios Brena set the school record in the 3000-meter event with a time of 9:06.31.
  • McFadden finished second overall in the 200-meter event with a school record breaking time of 22.64 seconds.
  • Elijah Hall placed fifth overall in the triple jump event and set a new school record with a leap of 12.74 meters.
 
Next Up:
  • The track & field teams will have a month off between competitions, with their next meet coming on January 14th at the University of Alabama Birmingham invite.
