Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Converse couldn't overcome slow start as #12 Limestone crusied to a 21-3 victory in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday evening. The Valkyries fell the 5-6 on the season and 2-4 in league play. #12 Limestone improved to 10-1 and 4-0 in conference play.
The Valkyries tallied three goals against the stingy Saints. Chelsea Worrell (Orlando, Fla.), Sydnie Hickey (Baltimore, Md.) and Aubrie Lauderdale (Greenville, S.C.) tallied goals for the Valkyries. Madison Butler (Tampa, Fla.) added an assist.
Limestone started the match off with a bang as the Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead just 1:40 into the match. The Valkyries cracked the scoreboard at the 17:33 mark of the first half with an unassisted goal by Chelsea Worrell to cut into the deficit 4-1.
Sydnie Hickey kept the deficit at three, 5-2, scoring an unassisted goal at the 12:26 mark. Limestone countered scoring four goals to take a commanding 9-2 lead.
With less than five minutes remaining in the first half, Aubrie Lauderdale finished off a pass from Madison Butler for her fifth goal of the season.
Limestone added three more goals before the half to take a 12-3 advantage into the break. The Saints kept the Valkyries off the scoreboard in the second half while adding to their advantage scoring nine second half goals.
Aubrie Lauderdale and Elizabeth Gabriele (Simpsonville, S.C.) recorded three groundballs each. Lauderdale added two draw controls.
Alex Gurecki (Farmingdale, N.Y.) took the loss in net while recording seven saves.
Converse takes a step out of conference play as the Valkyries head to Atlanta, Ga. to face Division III opponent Oglethorpe, Sunday, March 29. Opening draw is at 12 noon.
