SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University lacrosse team fell 17-14 to North Greenville on Tuesday night at Weisiger Stadium.
With the loss Converse drops to 4-8 overall and 3-3 in Conference Carolinas action, meanwhile North Greenville improves to 4-9 overall and 2-3 in Conference Carolinas play.
Karter Lauer led the offense on Tuesday evening scoring six goals in the loss for the Valkyries. Her six goal performance is a new career high for the senior, who also recorded her 100
th career point on Tuesday evening.
Becky Reinhard finished second on the team with four goals, followed by
Zoey Jacobs with two goals, and
Kaitlyn Oliver and
Brooklyn Walker each scored a goal each. Jacobs led the team with a trio of assists and Obenchain finished second on the team with two assists against the Trailblazers.
Converse scored the first two goals of the game to give the Valkyries the early advantage. North Greenville answered with a pair of goals midway through the opening quarter. Reinhard and Lauer both scored before the first quarter ended to give Converse a 4-2 edge heading into the second quarter of action.
The Valkyries offense did not let up as they scored two more goals to a 6-2 lead over North Greenville. North Greenville scored with 11:28 to go in the period to end the scoring drought against the Valkyries. With 10:15 to play in the half, Lauer scored her third goal of the night and the Valkyries held a 7-3 lead over North Greenville.
The Trailblazers fired back with three straight goals to pull within a point of the Valkyries. A
Zoey Jacobs goal with 38 seconds left in the half appeared to have ended the Trailblazers momentum. However, North Greenville scored with less than one second left on the clock, giving Converse only a slim 8-7 edge over the Trailblazers.
In the third quarter, North Greenville scored twice in the early moments of the period taking their first lead of the game at 9-8. Lauer scored a few moments later to put the Valkyries on the board in the second half and tied the game at nine. The two teams went back-and-forth throughout the third period of action, but it was a late four goal spurt by North Greenville in the final two minutes of the quarter that gave North Greenville a 15-12 lead.
In the fourth quarter each team scored a pair of goals against one another. The Valkyries comeback came up short as they ran out of time late in the fourth quarter.

The Converse lacrosse team will be back in action at home on Saturday afternoon when they battle Barton at 1:00 p.m.
