Box Score SPARTANBURG, SC – The Valkyries lacrosse team hosted the Falcons of Pfeiffer University who are ranked as the number four team in the nation by LAXpower.com. The Falcons tenacious offense would be too much for the Valkyries to handle as they fell 19-1. Pfeiffer now moves to 1-0 in conference play and 2-0 overall as Converse falls to 0-1 in conference play and 1-2 overall.
Pfeiffer was led on offense by Ashleigh Kassab scoring four goals against the Valkyries. Rachel McCarthy stood in at goal only allowing 1 goal with 2 saves. On the defensive side, Ashleigh Kassab also led the team with four ground balls, as teammate Katherine Athen won five draw controls. The Falcons would hold Converse to only eight successful attempts out of twelve.
The goal scored for the Valkyries was by Chelsea Worrell (Orlando, F.L.) while teammate Amelia Helm (Piedmont, C.A.) led on the defensive side with three ground balls and two draw controls. Alex Gurecki (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Sandra Ponce (Germantown, M.D.) split time in the goal. Gurecki had nine saves while Ponce only had five.
Converse will travel to take on conference foe, Belmont Abbey University on March 1 with a 2:30PM start time.
