Spartanburg, SC - Although the last meeting between these two teams in 2009 resulted in a 2 to 18 decision in favor of Seton Hill, this year would see a very different result for the Valkyries.
They found themselves in a 2 point deficit within the first few minutes of the game, looking to be a repeat of last year. Yet, the young squad was unfazed, eventually bringing the match into a tie. The two teams went back and forth until the second half when Seton Hill jumped out to a 4 point lead. Again, the Valkyries came back stronger than ever, going on a 3 goal streak that forced Seton Hill to take a timeout. After the time out, with only a minute left, freshman Bridget Dullea (Peabody, MA) tied the game at 15-15, sending the teams into overtime. Unfortunately, Seton Hill made a shot with 5 seconds left in the first half of overtime.
"I am incredibly proud of this year's team. Every time we have played, we have shown improvement in key aspects," commented Coach Redman. "The girls fought for every point, and never gave up. Thanks to their great efforts, we can leave this game with high hopes for the future."
Bridget Dullea (Peabody, MA) added 6 goals with teammate Lacey Bevilacqua (Carlsbald, CA) who added 5 goals. Teammates Kayla Foster (State College, PA), Brianna Hoffman (Simpsonville, SC), and Jennifer Tropiano (Toms River, NJ) also contributed goals.
The Valkyries take the field again Thursday March 11 at home, starting at 6:30 PM.
