Converse Captures Second Straight Victory

Spartanburg, SC - The Converse College women's lacrosse team celebrated an impressive victory Saturday, with 23 goals from eleven different players. Lacy Bevilacqua (Carlsbad, CA) put Converse on the board only 53 seconds into the game. Less than 20 seconds later Kayla Foster (State College, PA) would notch the Valkyries second goal.

The Valkyries were far from done and moved on with a 6 goal run before Kaitlyn Drake put a score on the board for Shepherd. With too little too late, Shepherd was unable to capitalize on the momentum as Converse picked up another goal on a ten goal streak before the half.

Bridget Dullea (Peabody, MA) lead the Valkyries with five goals and an assist. Teammates Tyler Dale (Greenville, SC) and Jennifer Tropiano (Toms River, NJ) both of whom upped the score with 4 and 3 goals, respectively.

The Shepherd's Nicole Ruane lead her team with 4 goals while teammate Kaitlyn Drake added the only other goal.

Tropiano started things out for the Valkyries in the second half of the game, scoring just three minutes in.  The Rams would score 2 quick goals within the 5 minute mark, but the late push was not enough as the clock ran out with Converse on top 23 – 5. The Valkyries 23 goals shattered the team's single digit scoring record, set only two weeks ago. Lacy Bevilaqua, Kayla Foster, and Brianna Hoffman (Simpsonville, SC) all added two goals to the game. Meanwhile, Brook Bondurant (Marietta, GA), Lindsey Reuss (Simpsonville, SC), Sam Green (Burlington, MA), and Cassie Fara (Simpsonville, SC) each offered up a goal for the Valkyries.

The Valkyries outshot Shepherd 38-17. Converse also dominated at the draw 20 – 10 and went 6-for-9 on free positions while Shepherd went 1-for-5.

Molly Donaghue (Silver Spring, MD) and Ashley Mercuri (Mississauga, ON) would split goalie duties holding Shepherd to only 5 goals. Donaghue would even produce on the field second half, contributing a goal and assist.

The Valkyries return to action Tuesday, March 23 at 6p.m. against St. Andrews Presbyterian.
