Royals Roll By Converse

SPARTANBURG, SC-- The Valkyries basketball squad fell to conference foe Queens University of Charlotte 72-64 on Saturday afternoon in Hannah Gym. With the loss, Converse falls to 4-18 on the season (4-13 in conference play). The Lady Royals improve to 12-10 overall (11-6 conference).

Converse fell behind 25-40 in the first half, shooting 33% from the field and 20% from the three point range. Queens barely edged out the Valkyries, managing 34% in field goals; however, the Royals grabbed the lead by shooting 30% from the arc and hitting 13 of 14 shots from the charity stripe. Converse bagged six of nine free throw attempts.

The Valkyries rallied back in the second period, shooting an improved 45% in the paint compared to Queen's 33%. Also, Converse nailed eight of 10 free throw attempts to improve to 80% in the second half while Queens outpaced, bagging 13 of 15 free throw attempts.

For the Valkyires, freshman Katie Vaughn scored a game high 15 points and grabbed six steals for the Valkyries while senior Ashley Arff chipped in 10 more points and pulled down 5 rebounds against the Lady Royals. Ashley Day and Jessica McMahan added seven more points apiece.

Ashley McGuirt led Queens, scoring 13 total points while Cecilia Tchangoue and Dyonna Battle chipped in 10 more points apiece.

Converse plays again Monday, February 15th against Belmont Abbey College at home. Tip-off for the game is set for 7pm.
