Valkyries Wrap Up Season Against Young Harris

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University women's basketball fell to the Young Harris College Mountain Lions 98-67 Wednesday evening at the Weisiger Center.

Converse concludes the season at 4-24 and 3-17 in Conference Carolinas play. Young Harris improves to 21-7 overall and 15-5 in conference action.

Junior Janiyah Hagood led the Valkyries with 20 points. Senior Alexis Becker added 14 points for Converse.

How It Happened
Young Harris jumped out to an early lead, leading 22-12 after the first quarter. The Mountain Lions extended their advantage with a strong second quarter, outscoring Converse 27-13 to take a 49-25 halftime lead.

Converse showed fight in the third quarter but the Valkyries were outscored 30-23. Both teams traded 19 points apiece in the fourth quarter as Young Harris secured the 98-67 victory.

  • Hagood led the Valkyries with 20 points on 7-13 shooting, including 3-5 from three-point range, and went 3-3 from the free-throw line.
  • Becker contributed 14 points, connecting on 5-11 from the field and 4-6 from beyond the arc.
  • Senior Mazie Helpman finished with 10 points, grabbing four rebounds and recording a team-high two steals in 35 minutes of action.
  • Freshman Madison Fileen dished out a team-best seven assists while adding five points and three rebounds in 37 minutes.
  • Junior Tatiana Brown tallied six points and five rebounds to anchor the frontcourt.
  • Senior Emma Kanz scored five points on 2-3 shooting with one block off of the bench.
  • Freshman Skyler Ellison and junior Lauren Clute each knocked down a three-pointer for three points apiece.
  • Freshman London Vaughn handed out five assists in limited minutes.
