SPARTANBURG, SC- Queens University of Charlotte was led by the 17 point effort of senior Marissa Hudley as they topped the Valkyries, 71-56. The loss drops Converse to 0-2 in Conference Carolinas' play, while Queens is off to a 1-0 start.
Hudley and her Royals shot 53 percent from the field in the first half to Converse's 29 percent to take a commanding 42-27 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Valkyries played even with Queens early in the 2nd half, until they went on a 14-3 run at the 10:00 mark to bring the game within reach at 52-59 with 3:34 remaining in the game. With possession, Converse looked to close the gap, but a steal by Queens guard Jessica Lewis would bring the ball the other way and eventually send Erin Goldner to the line to widen the gap. The Royals would not look back, as they went on the seal their second win of the season.
Sophomore Katy Vaughan (Lebanon, TN) had a solid evening for Converse with 14 points and 5 rebounds, while senior Morgan Sacharski (Sussex, WI) added 7 points and 8 rebounds.
The Valkyries will take a break from conference play as they travel to Coastal Carolina University(12/12) and Gardner-Webb University(12/16) for their next two matches. Tip-off's are 2pm and 7pm respectively.
