Morgan’s Late Goal Forces Midweek Draw with Crusaders

BELMONT, N.C. – In a game that saw the Converse University women's soccer team (2-4-3, 2-3-2 Conference Carolinas) take half the total number of shots, 12-6, compared to their opponents, the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (5-2-3, 3-1-3 Conference Carolinas), the Valkyries' lone goal was enough to keep the score even as the teams settled for a 1-1 draw Wednesday evening at Alumni Field on the campus of Belmont Abbey College.

While the Valkyries attempted half the shots that the Crusaders attempted, they attempted double the shots on goal, 4-2. Converse took just one shot in the second half, the equalizing goal from junior forward Charlie Morgan in the 78th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Sofía Casares Herrasti played the entire game in goal for the eighth time this season. With the Crusaders taking just two shots on goal and scoring once, Casares Herrasti recorded one save in the match, coming about halfway through the 83rd minute.

Next up for the Valkyries:
The Valkyries return to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 3, as they host another divisional foe, the North Greenville Trailblazers, at Weisiger Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 P.M.
