Late Goal Seals Valkyries’ Fate Against North Greenville

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – An 88th-minute goal from the North Greenville Trailblazers (3-5-2, 3-2-2 Conference Carolinas) was the difference in the Converse University women's soccer team's (2-5-3, 2-4-2 Conference Carolinas) Saturday morning matchup at Weisiger Stadium.

North Greenville held a slight advantage in shots taken in the first half and more than doubled the Valkyries in the second half.

The Trailblazers scored the game's first goal in the 34th minute as freshman midfielder Christabel Kirkham netted the goal. The Trailblazers took their 1-0 lead into halftime.

Following a foul just outside the box, junior Sierra Criner delivered a strike just out of reach of the Trailblazers' keeper, drawing the game level in the 69th minute.

Just under 20 minutes later and with just under three minutes remaining in the game, Kirkham struck again, giving North Greenville the decisive goal as they held on to win 2-1.

Next up for the Valkyries:
The Valkyries return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 6, as they host the King University Tornado at Weisiger Stadium. The game is set to begin at 5 P.M.
