MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Six goals scored by six different Valkyries, the team's highest-scoring game this season, made the difference for the Converse University men's soccer team (4-2-3, 2-1-2 Conference Carolinas) as they defeated the Mount Olive Trojans 6-3 Saturday afternoon at Amon Field on the campus of the University of Mount Olive.

The Valkyries held the Trojans to just nine shots, four on-goal, while attempting 22 of their own, 14 of which were on-goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Thiago Ausland played about 80 minutes in goal and earned the goalkeeping win. Sophomore Paul Legai played the other 10 minutes and recorded the Valkyries' one save.

Sophomore defender Owen Nero got the scoring start just 50 seconds into the match to put Converse up early.

Following a Mount Olive goal in the 10th minute, the Valkyries reclaimed the lead with a goal from sophomore forward Jacob Bandel early in the 19th minute. That was the final goal of the first half as the Valkyries took their 2-1 lead into the locker room.

The Valkyries stretched the lead to three goals as sophomore midfielder Alec Antista scored late in the 48th minute and junior midfielder Amro Shibeika, assisted by senior forward Kade Smith, scored about halfway through the 68th minute.

After a Trojan goal in the 70th minute, the Valkyries struck for two more goals as graduate forward Iker Revuelta scored early in the 71st minute. Freshman forward Daniel Carvalho then scored early in the 76th minute. Senior defender Jesper Schierholz assisted on both goals.

The Trojans added one more goal in the 80th minute, but the Valkyries held on to win 6-3.

The Valkyries return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 30, as they head to Belmont to take on the Belmont Abbey Trojans at 7 P.M.
