SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's soccer team (3-2-3, 1-1-2 Conference Carolinas) used a three-goal second half to push past the Bob Jones Bruins (3-4-1) 4-1 Tuesday night at Weisiger Stadium.

Freshman Thiago Ausland started in goal for the Valkyries and played 72 minutes, earning the win despite conceding the Bruins' lone goal. Sophomore Paul Legai played the other 18 minutes in goal.

The Valkyries outshot the Bruins 28-2 in the game, with the advantage on shots on goal being 13-1.

Less than a minute into the game, the teams were called off the pitch because of lightning in the area, a delay that lasted just over an hour.

After the game resumed, it took the Valkyries just over 24 minutes to score the game's first goal as sophomore midfielder Andy Alvarenga scored the game's first goal with the assist coming from fellow sophomore Jacob Bandel.

The Valkyries added two more goals in a short stretch early in the second half as sophomore defender Henrik Balzer netted a goal in the 60th minute and senior forward Kade Smith added another Valkyrie goal in the 63rd minute with the assist coming from junior midfielder Amro Shibeika.

Just over five-and-a-half minutes later, Bandel scored the Valkyries' final goal of the game.

Bob Jones scored in the 70th minute but attempted just one shot the rest of the way as the Valkyries cruised to a 4-1 victory.

The Valkyries return to Conference Carolinas play on Saturday, Sept. 26, as they head to Mount Olive, North Carolina, to take on the Mount Olive Trojans at 3 P.M.
