Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bulldogs’ Second-Half Goal Leads to Valkyries’ First Defeat of Season

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – A goal from Wingate freshman forward Austin Vicenzino proved to be the difference as the Converse University men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Wingate University Bulldogs on Wednesday night at Weisiger Stadium.

Freshman goalkeeper Thiago Ausland started the game for the Valkyries and played the first half, recording two saves. Sophomore keeper Paul Legai played the second half and received the goalie loss.

While the teams were roughly even in total shots taken, with Converse attempting 11 to Wingate's 10, the Valkyries managed just one shot on goal.

That lone shot on goal came in the 82nd minute off the foot of sophomore forward Henrik Balzer. The ball then bounced to graduate forward Iker Revuelta, who attempted a shot of his own, but it sailed over the crossbar, ending the Valkyries' late push.

The Valkyries had one final push in the final two minutes of the contest, but were unable to score the equalizer and fell 1-0.

Next Up For the Valkyries:
The Valkyries are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 5, as they head to Bristol, Tennessee, to kick off conference and divisional play against the King University Tornado. The match is set to begin at 3:30 P.M.
