Thomas Breaks Valkyries’ Career Home Run Record in Clash With Pioneers

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – With a first-inning home run in game one of the Converse University softball team's nonconference doubleheader with the Tusculum Pioneers, senior Kiarra Thomas took sole possession of the program's career home run record with her 22nd long ball. She hit another home run in game two to extend her record. The Valkyries fell 8-1 in game one and 4-3 in game two.

With the losses, Converse falls to 9-31 on the season. Tusculum improves to 14-20 in the 2026 campaign.

Game One: Tusculum 8, Converse 1

The Valkyries scored their only run of the game on a two-out solo shot from Thomas, her 22nd career home run, giving her sole possession of the program's career record in the statistic.

Senior Madison Davis doubled into center field to follow for the Valkyries' second and final hit of the game.

Tusculum tied the game in the bottom of the first and took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second. They added one run each in the third and fifth innings before capping off the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Game Two: Tusculum 4, Converse 3

After Tusculum took an early lead on a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, Thomas tied the game back up in the top of third with a one-out two-run home run of her own.

After a lengthy weather delay, Converse took the lead with a one-out sac fly from senior Aubree Leonard in the top of the fourth inning. The Pioneers tied the game once again in the bottom of the inning.

Both teams got a runner to third in the fifth inning, but neither was able to capitalize on the opportunity.

Converse loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, but again they were unable to push across the go-ahead run.

On deck for the Valkyries
The Valkyries return to conference action on Tuesday, April 7, as they head to Bristol, Tennessee, to take on the King University Tornado. First pitch is scheduled for 2 P.M.
