Valkyries Drop Doubleheader to King

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University softball team dropped both games of their Tuesday afternoon divisional doubleheader with the King University Tornado. King claimed game one 8-4 and game two 4-2.

With the losses, Converse falls to 9-25 and 5-9 in Conference Carolinas action. King improves to 22-16 and 8-4 in conference play.

Game One: King 8, Converse 4

Senior Kiarra Thomas picked up the game's first hit with a two-out double in the top of the first, but the Valkyries were unable to capitalize.

A wild pitch and a two-out RBI single brought home the first two runs of the game for King in the top of the second inning.

A lead-off home run from freshman Alexis Felker cut the lead to one run in the bottom of the second. A two-out two-RBI triple from senior Aubree Leonard gave Converse a 3-2 lead heading into the third inning.

After a scoreless third, the Tornado tied the game in the fourth inning with an RBI single that followed two walks.

King plated four runs in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth, taking an 8-3 lead into the seventh inning.

Thomas drove in a run with a sac fly in the bottom of the seventh inning, but King held on to win 8-4.

Game Two: King 4, Converse 2

A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the first drove in the ballgame's first run as senior Karlie Gibson picked up the RBI.

The game was scoreless in the second inning before King picked up two runs in the top of the third. They added another in the top of the fourth inning.

Freshman Tyler Karabach and Thomas hit back-to-back two-out doubles in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 3-2.

A bases-loaded walk brought home the game's final run in the top of the sixth inning.

On deck for the Valkyries
The Valkyries return to action on Friday, March 27, as they head to Tigerville to take on the North Greenville Trailblazers. First pitch is scheduled for 2 P.M.
