Skee Has Career Outing Against Dominican (Calif.)

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University Lacrosse team fell 12-7 to Dominican University of California on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss Converse drops to 3-4 overall on the season, while Dominican improves to 7-1 on the year. Becky Reinhard led the team with four goals on the day, while Hailey Obenchain added a hat trick in the loss. Zoey Jacobs posted a team high three assists, while Megan Holleran added one assist in the loss. Sophomore goalie Abigail Skee posted a career high 17 saves against the Penguins on Saturday afternoon. Skee is the first Converse goalie to accomplish the feat since Reagan Collins had 17 saves against Emmanuel (3/29/25) last season.  

The game got off to a slow start as neither side was able to get a shot off in the first few minutes of the contest. With 6:20 to go in the opening period the Penguins got on the board first with a goal by Ryan Bionda. Two minutes later, Morgan Newkirk scored the second goal of the game and the Penguins took a 2-0 lead into the quarter break.

In the second quarter, Newkirk, Kyra Evans and Olivia Johnson all scored to put the Penguins up 5-0. Then with 5:11 to play in the half, Holleran found Obenchain for the Valkyries first goal of the game. Evans added her second goal of the contest at the 4:06 mark of the second quarter to give Dominican a 6-1 advantage. Reinahrd and Obenchain both scored in the final minute of the half to close the gap to three against the Penguins.

Dominican opened the third period with four unanswered goals and built a 10-3 advantage against the Valkyries. Zoey Jacobs found Reinhard for the Valkyries lone goal in the period as Converse headed to the fourth quarter down by six.

Five minutes into the fourth quarter, Jacobs found Obenchain for the Valkyries fifth goal of the afternoon. The Penguins responded with a pair of goals to make it 12-5. Reinhard scored the final two goals of the game for the Valkyries as Converse dropped their first home game of the season.  

Next Up:
The Converse lacrosse team will be back in action at home this coming Wednesday night against Southern Connecticut State. The game is set to start at 6:00 p.m.
