ANDERSON, S.C. – The Converse University softball team held leads in both of their Wednesday afternoon games against the Anderson University Trojans, but ultimately fell in both games. The Trojans won 5-4 in game one before walking off game two 6-5.

With the losses, Converse falls to 1-11 on the season. Anderson improves to 9-3.

Game One: Anderson 5, Converse 4

Junior Kiarra Thomas picked up the game's first hit in the top of the first inning but it wasn't until the third inning when the Valkyries started the scoring. A double steal brought home the first run and Thomas knocked in two more with her first home run of the season.

Freshman Alexis Felker brought home the Valkyries' fourth and final run of the game with a two-out RBI double in the top of the fourth.

Three singles to lead off the bottom of the fourth brought home the first Trojan run and a walk to follow loaded the bases. Anderson hit a grand slam to take a 5-4 lead. Freshman Natasha Fife entered and retired the next three batters in order.

Both teams recorded a hit in the fifth and sixth innings, but Anderson held on to win 5-4.

Game Two: Anderson 6, Converse 5

The Valkyries struck first once again as, after two singles to lead off the inning, senior Aubree Leonard knocked a one-out three-run home run to break open the scoring in favor of the Valkyries.

Anderson cut the lead to 3-1 after converting a leadoff double into their first run of the ball game.

Leonard drove home another Converse run with a one-out infield single and throwing error on the next at-bat brought home yet another run, putting the Valkyries up 5-1 heading into the final half inning.

Anderson scored five runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and won 6-5.

On deck for the Valkyries
The Valkyries will host the first-ever Converse Round Robin this Saturday and Sunday at Tyger River Stadium.
