Senior-Day Victory Propels Valkyries to Share of Northwest Division Title

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – With a 2-0 victory over the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (5-9-3, 4-8-1 Conference Carolinas) Saturday afternoon at Weisiger Stadium, the Converse University men's soccer team (10-3-5, 8-1-4 Conference Carolinas) clinched a share of the Northwest Division title with the No. 11 Lees-McRae Bobcats (13-1-3, 9-1-3 Conference Carolinas).

It is the third time the Valkyries have clinched at least a share of the division title since Conference Carolinas switched to the divisional format four seasons ago.

Freshman goalkeeper Thiago Ausland recorded his third solo shutout of the season. He recorded three saves on 10 shots faced.

The Valkyries also honored six seniors prior to the game: Landon Hall, Jalen Renwick, Jesper Schierholz, Kade Smith, Elliott Yarborough and graduate student Iker Revuelta.

Freshman forward Daniel Carvalho fed the ball to sophomore forward Jacob Bandel in the 33rd minute to get the scoring going for the Valkyries. They took that 1-0 lead into halftime.

Then early in the second half, Revuelta found an open look and scored the team's second goal of the game in the 48th minute.

Next Up For the Valkyries:
The third-seeded Valkyries return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31, as they will host the winner of sixth-seeded Emmanuel and 11th-seeded Belmont Abbey.
