DUE WEST, S.C. – An early goal from the Erskine Flying Fleet (2-11-1, 2-9-1 Conference Carolinas) wasn't enough to keep the Converse University women's soccer team (4-5-5, 4-4-3 Conference Carolinas) down as the Valkyries followed with a quartet of unanswered goals and won 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Lundy Field on the campus of Erskine College.

The Valkyries took 17 shots in the game while holding Erskine to nine. Thirteen of the Valkyries shots were on-goal while only four of Erskine's were.

Freshman goalkeeper Sofía Casares Herrasti started the game and recorded two saves while starting and playing the first half of the game. She was credited with the win in goal. Fellow freshman keeper Reese Haynes played the second half and recorded one save.

After Erskine scored about halfway through the fourth minute, freshman forward Catherine Clark evened the game late in the 18th minute with the first goal of her collegiate career.

Junior forward Varinia Delgado netted the game-winner, her first goal in purple and gold, late in the 40th minute off of an assist from sophomore forward Kathryn Hoffman.

Hoffman picked up two more assists in the second half as junior midfielder Sam Quillen scored in the 71st and 76th minutes, scoring her third and fourth goals of the season and helping seal the 4-1 victory for the Valkyries.

Next up for the Valkyries:
The Valkyries return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 20, as they head to Tigerville to take on the North Greenville Trailblazers. The game is set to begin at 5 P.M.
