Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

At Long Last Valkyries Defeat Conference-Leading Young Harris 4-1

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – It took 26 days, but the Converse University men's soccer team (4-1-2, 2-1-2 Conference Carolinas) handed the Young Harris Mountain Lions (4-1-2, 4-1 Conference Carolinas) their first conference loss of the season as they dominated both halves and won 4-1.

The game was nearly perfectly split between Sept. 19 and Oct. 15. Due to prolonged weather in Spartanburg on the 19th and other schedule conflicts, the game could not be completed until the 15th. Back to the present, the conclusion of the game brings Converse to 7-3-5 overall and 5-1-4 in Conference Carolinas play. Young Harris, ranked first in the conference's first NPI rankings, falls to 9-2-3 overall and 9-1 in Conference Carolinas action.

Freshman Thiago Ausland recorded six saves in the multi-day affair. He played all 90 minutes.

Senior Jesper Schierholz started the scoring early in the 23rd minute off of an assist from sophomore Alec Antista.

Just over seven minutes later, sophomore Jacob Bandel scored an unassisted goal.

Before the half was over, Young Harris added a goal in the 37th minute to bring the score at the break to 2-1.

Just over two minutes into the second half, the game was stopped due to weather, specifically lightning, in the area around Weisiger Stadium. The game was stopped and not resumed until the afternoon of Oct. 15.

Just over 20 minutes into the restart, senior Kade Smith scored on a double assist from Bandel and sophomore Kalle Hermansson.

Then, with just over eight minutes remaining, graduate forward Iker Revuelta netted a penalty kick after sophomore forward Levi Bankirer drew a foul in the box.

Neither team scored the rest of the way as Converse held on to win 4-1.
