Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Patriots Stifle Valkyries

FLORENCE, S.C. – Early goals in both halves proved the difference between the Converse University men's soccer team (4-3, 3-1 Conference Carolinas) and the Francis Marion Patriots (2-2-3, 2-0-2 Conference Carolinas), as the Patriots won 2-1 over the Valkyries.

The loss brings the Valkyries' four-game winning streak to a close. The Patriots attempted 14 shots in the game while Converse attempted just three. The Patriots put seven of those goals on-target while Converse had just one.

Freshman forward Jesper Schierholz attempted the first shot of the match in the fifth minute, but it missed to the right. It was the Valkyries only shot of the opening half.

The Patriots took the ball up the field on their following possession and scored a sixth-minute goal, putting them up 1-0 for the rest of the half.

Francis Marion doubled their lead 66 seconds into the second half with the eventual game winner.

The Valkyries showed life in the 83rd minute as senior defender Luis Fortuce headed the ball into the net following a corner kick from Schierholz. It was Converse's final shot of the game and only shot on goal.
