HARROGATE, Tenn. – An even first half wasn't enough for the Converse University women's soccer team (2-3-2, 1-1-1 Conference Carolinas) as they fell 4-1 to the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters (3-3-1, 0-2 SAC) behind a three-goal second half from LMU on Wednesday evening.

Lincoln Memorial edged the Valkyries in shots, 20-9, and shots on goal, 12-4. Converse sophomore goalkeeper Gabriella Gudeman recorded seven saves in the match, setting a new season high.

The Railsplitters got the scoring started in the 11th minute with a goal from Ellie Snyder as she outpaced the Valkyries' backline and won the one-on-one with Gudeman.

Converse evened the game as senior midfielder Jasmine Hernandez dribbled past four Railsplitter defenders with just the keeper to beat. Her shot bounced off the left post and right to junior forward Hannah Liebig who, after her first shot was blocked by a defender, took the deflection and put the ball in the back of the net, evening the game 1-1 in the 40th minute. The Valkyries held off a late-first-half attack from the Railsplitters and went into halftime with the score even.

Lincoln Memorial put up a trio of goals between the 49th and 56th minutes, comfortably playing the final 35 minutes of the game with a three-goal lead.

The Valkyries attempted just three shots, two on-goal, following the final goal of the match, and fell 4-1.

The Valkyries head to Florence, South Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 27 to take on the Francis Marion Patriots. The match is set to begin at 4:30 P.M.
