SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University field hockey team defeated Wingate 3-0 on Tuesday night at Weisiger Stadium.
With the win the Valkyries improve to 4-2 overall on the season and 3-1 in South Atlantic Conference action. Wingate drops to 3-3 overall on the season and 1-2 SAC play. With the win Converse is now 3-2 all-time against the Bulldogs dating back to the 2022 field hockey season.
The Converse offense came out ready to go in the opening period, outshooting Wingate 3-1. Six minutes into the contest
Amparo Figueroa found
Edith Swaan for the Valkyries first goal of the match. The Valkyries held the Bulldogs scoreless on three separate corner opportunities.
Just a minute and a half into the second quarter freshman
Brooke Burgin scored her first career goal and put the Valkyries up 2-0. Converse outshot Wingate 11-3 in the first half and 6-0 in shots on goal.
In the third quarter the Valkyries picked up where they left off in the first half.
Sol Garcia Berro found
Kilee Bradeen for the Valkyries third goal of the match. Converse outshot Wingate 6-0 in the third quarter of action.
The Valkyries ended the game outshooting the Bulldogs 19-4 and 10-1 in shots on goal. However, the Bulldogs did hold advantages in saves (7-1) and corners (4-3).
